What goes in the blue bin?
Since August 2026, households that have both a blue bin and a recycling box can put all accepted recycling in the blue bin. Paper, cardboard, metal, plastic and glass are collected together and sorted later. If your home only uses recycling boxes, carry on using them unless the council contacts you.
Read the council's current Stoke-on-Trent recycling rules or our report explaining the change to mixed recycling collections.
Missed bin?
First check the council's live collection problems list in case roadworks, parked cars, contamination or another disruption affected your street. If your bin was out by 6am and no problem was recorded, report it within 48 hours and leave it available for collection.

Bank holidays and changed collections
Do not assume your collection moves to the next day. Stoke-on-Trent City Council publishes revised dates when Christmas, New Year or operational disruption changes a round. Recheck the postcode calendar and current service alerts before putting your bin out. When collection changes affect Stoke-on-Trent, we cover them in our local news.
