Catherine Kilvington has been appointed chair of the Meir North Pride in Place Board, taking charge of how up to £20 million in government funding is spent across the neighbourhood over the next decade. The Stoke-on-Trent native, who previously worked in broadcasting at Signal 1, won the role after a competitive recruitment process and brings years of experience supporting families through SEND advocacy work.
Meir North is one of three areas in Stoke selected for the Pride in Place funding scheme. The programme aims to build better, safer neighbourhoods that bring communities together and create lasting change. The board will bring together residents, businesses, community groups and local partners to identify priorities and ensure investment reaches where it matters most.
Kilvington has outlined her approach to the role with a focus on listening and community engagement. "I don't see this role as leading a community. I see it as standing alongside one," she said. "I will listen first, build trust, champion local voices and help turn ideas into positive action."
Council leader Councillor Jane Ashworth emphasised that the programme is "about putting communities first" and giving local people "the power and flexibility to shape their future." The investment forms part of Stoke's wider commitment to neighbourhood regeneration.
