Firefighters are continuing to monitor a grass fire at Park Hall Country Park in Stoke-on-Trent after being called to the scene on Sunday afternoon.

Crews attended the park off Park Hall Road at 16.30 BST on Sunday following reports of smoke. The fire covered approximately 100m x 100m of scrubland and grassland.

Overnight work and ongoing presence

Firefighters worked through the night to extinguish pockets of fire, with two crews remaining at the scene on Monday to keep watch and monitor any hot spots.

Martin Weaver, from the fire service, said further resources would be sent to the scene during Monday.

Road closure in place

People were asked not to travel along Hulme Road between Hulme village and Park Hall Road to allow access for fire service vehicles.

Fire service statement on prevention

Weaver added: "The demand we have faced across Staffordshire this summer has been unprecedented. While we still need to determine the cause of this fire, we'd ask people to follow the safety advice on our website to help prevent wildfires from happening in your area."
