Port Vale manager Jon Brady said there was "nothing" in the game against Salford City which ended 1-0 to the hosts, with the result decided by a soft free-kick that slipped past goalkeeper Jackson Smith.
Addressing BBC Radio Stoke after the match, Brady expressed frustration at the loss. "We're playing a team that's just gone out there and got the best players they can from leagues above and we've gone toe to toe with them," he said. "We haven't put the ball in the back of the net first-half and there was nothing in that game."
Brady pointed to defensive errors in the second half as the turning point. "They chase the game. They don't play the way we should play and it leaves holes everywhere. That's frustrating because it's by want of trying that they're trying to go and get it but they are chasing the game and leaving holes all over the place. First-half we're the better team. Second-half we go and do some crazy things and I'll have to rectify things."
Mounting pressure
The defeat leaves Port Vale rock bottom of the Football League. Brady acknowledged the frustration among supporters but expressed confidence in a recovery. "I'm angry, I'm hurt and I absolutely get it. I see a way we can turn this around. We need to get a result next Saturday, it's that simple."
