Stoke-on-Trent City Council is holding a series of drop-in events as the final stage of public consultation on its proposed Local Plan 2020-2040 gets underway. The six-week Regulation 19 consultation is now live and will lead to the plan's submission to government for independent examination.
Residents, businesses and community groups are invited to attend the events to ask questions and understand the proposals in detail. Council planning officers will be available throughout the sessions to explain the plan and discuss the consultation process.
What has changed since previous consultation
The proposed Local Plan has been revised significantly following feedback from earlier consultation stages. Changes made in response to comments include the identification of more brownfield sites for development, fewer proposed Green Belt releases and enhanced protection for local green spaces.
Councillor Jane Ashworth, leader of Stoke-on-Trent City Council, said: "We've already listened to thousands of comments from residents, businesses and organisations during the previous consultation and acted on that feedback. The proposed Local Plan includes more brownfield development opportunities, fewer proposed Green Belt releases and stronger protection for our local green spaces as a result."
Councillor Finlay Gordon-McCusker, cabinet member for growth, regeneration and transport, added: "This proposed Local Plan provides the framework for how Stoke-on-Trent will grow over the next 15 years, supporting new homes, investment, jobs and infrastructure while ensuring development is sustainable and reflects the needs of our communities."
Consultation events this week
The first three drop-in sessions will take place at the following locations and times:
Tuesday 11 August – Norton Central Social Club, 94 Knypersley Road, ST6 8HZ, 4pm-7pm
Wednesday 12 August – Trentham Learning Centre, Allerton Road, Trentham, 4pm-7pm
Thursday 13 August – St John's Church and Welcome Centre, 30 Greasley Road, Abbey Hulton, ST2 8JE, 4pm-7pm
