A major £1.9 million transformation of Longton town centre in Stoke has begun, with Times Square set for a complete redesign. The project will create a brand new public space outside the town hall, featuring accessible seating, fresh paving and new tree planting to enhance the heart of the town.
The improvements extend across Longton's key routes and facilities. Pedestrian pathways connecting the rail station, bus station and Tesco retail park are being overhauled, while new traffic layouts and upgraded signals aim to reduce congestion. High-quality walking routes through Baths Passage and Strand Passage are also being upgraded as part of the scheme.
Funding for the project comes from the government's Transforming Cities Fund. The plans were backed by hundreds of residents in a consultation held last year, ensuring local voices shaped the regeneration of Longton in Stoke.
To minimise disruption, most construction work is scheduled Monday to Friday, with weekends largely preserved. Bus stops have been temporarily relocated and some traffic lanes will be coned off as work progresses through the town centre.
The council is reminding shoppers and visitors that Longton's local businesses remain open throughout the project. Residents and businesses in Stoke can expect to see steady progress over the coming months as the town centre transformation takes shape.
