Patrick Shanahan has been appointed chair of the Bradeley, Chell Heath and Fegg Hayes Pride in Place Neighbourhood Board following a competitive recruitment process. The board will help shape how up to £20 million of government funding is invested in the area over the next decade.
Shanahan brings experience from his work at Port Vale Football Club and the Port Vale Foundation, where he has led community projects and engaged local residents.
What the board will do
The neighbourhood board brings together residents, businesses, community groups and local partners to identify local priorities and projects. Its role is to ensure investment is directed where it can make the biggest difference and give local people a strong voice in decisions about future improvements.
Bradeley, Chell Heath and Fegg Hayes is one of three areas in Stoke-on-Trent selected by government to receive Pride in Place funding to build better, safer neighbourhoods.
Shanahan's track record
Shanahan has been instrumental in the Vale Park Community Campus project, which is backed by £2.3 million of government funding provided through Stoke-on-Trent City Council. He has also been heavily involved in creating the Bradeley Football Development Centre, a facility currently under construction and supported by Football Foundation funding.
Shanahan said the Pride in Place programme provides an opportunity to build on the approach taken with the Campus, which aims to support health, education, wellbeing and stronger community connections.
"As Chair, my aim is to help in bringing together residents, local organisations, councillors and partners around a shared plan that is ambitious, fair and firmly rooted in the needs of the area," Shanahan said.
