A small Stoke-on-Trent care home has retained a Good rating following its latest assessment by the Care Quality Commission.

The Cedars, at 2 Harding Road in Hanley, provides residential care without nursing for up to six people. The regulator published its latest findings on 30 September 2026.

Inspectors said people received safe support from staff who understood their needs. The assessment found staff had the training and guidance required for their roles, while systems were in place to learn from incidents and reduce the risk of them happening again.

People treated with dignity and respect

The report found people were supported in a way that respected their privacy, dignity and independence. Staff were described as knowing the people they supported well and taking account of their individual preferences.

People were also helped to make choices about their day-to-day lives. Inspectors considered how the service involved residents in decisions and whether staff communicated in ways people could understand.

The regulator's findings indicate that care plans reflected people's needs and that staff worked to provide consistent support. Relatives and other people involved in residents' care were able to contribute where appropriate.

Safety and staff support

Inspectors looked at how the home managed risks, medicines, staffing and safeguarding. They found staff understood how to identify and report concerns and that the service had arrangements intended to keep people safe.

Training and supervision helped staff maintain their skills. The service also used debriefs and reviews after incidents so lessons could be shared across the team.

The latest assessment did not change the home's overall rating. A Good rating means the CQC considers the service to be performing well and meeting its expectations.

How care services are rated

The CQC assesses adult social care services against five questions: whether they are safe, effective, caring, responsive to people's needs and well-led. Evidence from those areas is used to reach an overall judgement.

Ratings are kept under review and can change if the regulator receives new information or carries out further assessment activity.
