Port Vale FC supporters are growing impatient with management promises, according to opinion from OneValeFan contributor Rob Fielding. CEO Matt Hancock's latest "club update" has failed to satisfy fans calling for immediate action rather than further assurances.

Hancock's Wednesday message to supporters acknowledged their concerns and promised that "changes are being worked on." However, Fielding argues the statement echoes previous pledges that have not materialised. Comments beneath the official news story reflected this frustration, with fans describing the update as offering "nothing," "paying lip service," and equating to "doing nothing."

The club has indicated it will convey proposed changes to supporters at a forum scheduled for 1 October — a week away. Fielding says fans want action taken immediately and should not have to wait seven days simply to learn what changes are being planned.

Previous promises questioned

Fielding pointed to the "changes to the football department" announced at the end of last season as evidence of unmet commitments. The club's football review promised to "strengthen decision-making and support long-term progress both on and off the pitch." Fielding questioned what long-term progress has actually been achieved, particularly regarding the club's striking issues. He noted that signing four rookie loanees does not constitute a long-term strategy.

He also highlighted that the review left Lee Darnborough — who had been responsible for previous transfer window failings — in charge. Darnborough has since departed. The review also pledged to "target clear identity" for the team, a promise Fielding said risks resulting in the "clear identity" of a failing football club.

What comes next

Port Vale will present its planned changes at the supporters' forum on 1 October. Fielding has invited concerned fans to comment with their own suggestions and proposals for addressing the club's current situation.
