Stoke-on-Trent is rolling out electric vehicle charging infrastructure across the city. Six new charging points are now live at three locations: Hawes Street in Tunstall, Clarence Street in Fenton, and Stoke Old Road in Hartshill. Each site features a 7kw charger with two sockets available for public use.
The council has secured nearly £2.4 million in government funding to expand charging access throughout Stoke. This investment reflects a broader commitment to making electric vehicle charging available to all residents, regardless of their home circumstances. More charging points will arrive in Stoke this summer as the rollout continues.
Alongside car park installations, Stoke is installing "charge at home" devices fitted to pavements outside residential properties. These chargers are designed for residents without driveways or private parking. Currently, 27 devices are already installed across Stoke, with a further 59 applications already approved for future installation.
Council bosses view the charging point expansion as essential preparation for the future of transport. As electric vehicles become increasingly common, Stoke is taking steps to ensure the city keeps pace with this transition. The investment demonstrates a determination not to fall behind other areas in supporting the switch to cleaner vehicles.
Residents interested in a charge at home device in Stoke can check their eligibility and apply through the council. Whether using the new car park chargers or home installation schemes, Stoke residents now have more options for convenient electric vehicle charging.
